WriterDamon

I am a native of Atlanta, Georgia. In the last fourteen months I've composed a novel, ten short stories, a solid pitch for a non-fiction proposal (that as it turned out was already published by another writer) and many review and lifestyle pieces for both local and national publications such as Spinmag.com, Citysearch, Paste and False magazines. I am passionate about sustainability and have been certified as a green consultant with the Green Business League.

  • Walking For Ribs

I’ve been walking and riding my bike a whole lot more lately. I know it’s the most ridiculously hot time of year and I hate it too but there’s something about the south, and the oppressive heat that makes me want to walk, hear the bugs, and know that I can step in just about anywhere and be drenched because no one really cares since it’s just how it is down here.

This weekend on one of these walks, I met Chef Derrick Jackson and his lovely daughter while they grilled ribs in the 95 degree heat. They told me that on the weekends they’ve begun to test run their Kentucky influenced ribs, chicken, and wonderful sides in front of a ramshackle cinder block building in downtown Kirkwood which they will soon convert into their very own restaurant.

It’s meeting people like the Jackson’s and eating food like they cook that I’m appreciative for my sometimes irrational decisions to walk in Atlanta…in August.
